Praise instead of fear

There are natural catastrophic events and dangerous creatures we cannot control. They inspire fear and astonishment. We can rely only on God for our protection from them. The author of this psalm is calling many of these types of events and creatures to join us in praising the God of the Universe, the Only One worth praising. Instead of being dominated by our fears, we have to realize that there is only One, bigger, more powerful, beautiful and loving that deserves our praise and our reverent fear. That’s why the Bible tells us that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Prov.9:10). This is the only fear that sweeps away all the paralyzing fears.

Praise God from earth,
   you sea dragons, you fathomless ocean deeps;
Fire and hail, snow and ice,
   hurricanes obeying his orders;
Mountains and all hills,
   apple orchards and cedar forests;
Wild beasts and herds of cattle,
   snakes, and birds in flight;
Earth’s kings and all races,
   leaders and important people,
Robust men and women in their prime,
   and yes, graybeards and little children.
13-14 Let them praise the name of God—
   it’s the only Name worth praising.
His radiance exceeds anything in earth and sky;
   he’s built a monument—his very own people!
Praise from all who love God!
   Israel’s children, intimate friends of God.
Hallelujah!
(Psalm 148:7-14 MSG)

Prayer: All the mighty forces of the universe are invited to praise Your name. We and every creature are invited too. You deserve all and the best praise possible. Thanks for choosing us humans to carry your image in ourselves. Thanks for choosing us, your friends, your children, to become monuments of your presence, symbols of your love. Let us live without fear, trusting you name, your presence to be always around us.
