The more you learn about war zone people, the more you appreciate peace. It must be disheartening to lose family members; to lose your home after years of building it; to lose friends, connections; to experience the killings between neighbors; invasion or exile; unpunished crimes in your streets; to have your harvest and production damaged; to be unable to provide food or health security for your family. It is easier to destroy a society than to build it. Building peace is not easy and requires a lot of work. But it is worth and everyone enjoys the results. We need God’s intervention and people’s willingness to follow Him (voluntarily, not coercively). That’s the only way for real peace.
Rescue me from the enemy sword,
release me from the grip of those barbarians
Who lie through their teeth,
who shake your hand
then knife you in the back.
12-14 Make our sons in their prime
like sturdy oak trees,
Our daughters as shapely and bright
as fields of wildflowers.
Fill our barns with great harvest,
fill our fields with huge flocks;
Protect us from invasion and exile—
eliminate the crime in our streets.
15 How blessed the people who have all this!
How blessed the people who have God for God!
(Psalm 144:11-15MSG)
Prayer: You are the God of peace. I regret that many use your name to justify their war crimes. I ask for my brothers and sisters that are caught in the middle of these senseless wars. Give them comfort and strength to endure, be safe, and get free. Help the oppressors to understand what they are doing. Help everyone know that they are solving nothing with these wars. Help the international community to understand this. Teach us humans not to gravitate to senseless violence.
