You can become powerful, but your power is not really yours. You depend on God for protection, for support, for rescue when you are failing, and even for just living. He is the only firm foundation for your life. He can train you in the virtues you need to succeed in life. To be powerful and humble: that’s a good combination. But, it is possible only when God is at the center of your life.
Blessed be God, my mountain,
who trains me to fight fair and well.
He’s the bedrock on which I stand,
the castle in which I live,
my rescuing knight,
The high crag where I run for dear life,
while he lays my enemies low. (Psalm 144:1-2 MSG)
Prayer: You are my refuge, my comfort. You make me grow, you train me in the good fight, the fight against violence, the fight for peace, the fight for love, the fight for human inherent dignity. You are my defender, You make me stand firm, You rescue me when I am struggling, You give me power and authority I need. You help me to humble myself and to prevent my own selfish ego govern me.
